Landscape and civil steel explained

Edging, trims and cast-in angle for gardens, paving and civil works

In landscaping the finish is the product, so the grade, fold and fixings need to be chosen for how they will look in five years. In civil work, the steel has to survive traffic, water and inspection. This range covers both.

Garden edging

Corten garden edging is supplied pre-weathered, so the russet patina is already there. SS304 stainless edging gives a bright, clean line with a folded top edge for rigidity. Both come with stakes and a connector.

Tile and membrane edging

Tile and membrane edging is a steel angle that sets a permanent edge where tile, screed and waterproof membrane finish. It is also available as flatbar trim for fine shadow lines and step nosings.

Cast-in angle

Cast-in angle has 12mm rebar tangs welded along the back so it locks into the pour. It is used for kerb edges, slab perimeters, pit surrounds and loading-dock edges, with no post-pour drilling.

Selection guide

Corten, stainless or galvanised?

Corten weathering steel forms a stable, sealed patina instead of flaking rust, and needs no coating. Plan for run-off in the early months so it does not stain pale paving.

304 stainless suits pool surrounds, courtyards and high-traffic public edges. Hot-dip galvanising is standard on cast-in angle because it sits at slab level, where water collects.

  • Near the coast: within about 1km of surf, our guidance is to step up from 304 to 316 stainless. Ask us about 316 options.
  • Bury depth: as a rule of thumb, bury about half the profile height.
  • Fixing: use the supplied stakes for garden edging. Tile edging is fixed through the base leg with mechanical anchors, not adhesive alone.
  • Cast-in: position the angle, tie it to the cage or formwork, and pour.

Garden beds and paths

Steel garden edging for garden beds, lawns and paths

Steel garden edging holds a clean line between garden beds, lawn, gravel and paving, and stays straight where timber rots and plastic lifts.

Corten and stainless edging

Easy to install

Staked edging is designed to be easy to install on most garden beds: dig a trench to suit the edging height, set the lengths in place and drive the stakes. Fabricated walling is supplied with drawings for the installer.

Common questions

Landscaping steel FAQs

Will Corten edging stain my paving?

Corten is supplied pre-weathered, which reduces early rust bleed. Some run-off can still occur while the patina settles, so detail drainage away from pale paving in the first months. Raw Corten is available on request if you would rather weather it in place.

Should I choose Corten or stainless edging?

Choose Corten for a warm, weathered look with no coating. Choose stainless where you want a bright, clean line or the edging is near pools or the coast.

How deep should garden edging be installed?

A practical rule of thumb is to bury about half the profile height, then firm the stakes so the line holds. Taller or retaining applications should use the fabricated edging range.

What is cast-in angle used for?

Cast-in angle protects concrete edges that take a beating: kerbs, slab perimeters, pit and channel surrounds, expansion joints, loading docks and trafficked pavement transitions.

Can you cut, mitre or curve the steel?

Yes. Cast-in angle can be cut, drilled, mitred and welded to your specification before despatch. Tile edging is cut to your run length, and fabricated edging can include curved sections.
